What are some great dress form models for a petite beginner?
I am just learning how to use a sewing machine, I asked for one for Christmas, and hopefully will get one. My birthday is in August [I know a longgg time from now], but want to ask for a Dress form. Any suggestions of what model? I am petite btw, and am looking for something that will meet my needs more than others. I looked into the Uniquely You Dress Form, any reviews? I am on a budget of less than $150 btw.
Kel - I have a Uniquely You dress form; purchased it in 1973. I have scoliosis, resulting in a "high" hip and shoulder on one side and could not purchase or make clothing to FIT until I got it. The cover was altered over the years as pregnancies, age and gravity wreaked havoc with my shape. Other forms are a one shape fits all deal and you just get to tweak the measurements. They never truly fit - they get close at best, but that is not what you are looking for if you want a dress form. Purchase the form according to the guide that is provided. If you choose this dress form, I strongly suggest you go to a seamstress for the required cover adjustments. Get it right the first time and you will be creating clothing that fits perfectly in a heartbeat! We were a military family so the form traveled the world and has been in cold dry climates, hot wet climates and everything in between with no ill effects. I found your question while looking for a website for the Uniquely You dress form - lost a part of the stand on the last move that I want to replace, am tired of jerry rigging.
